Italian Sausage Cheese Tortellini Bake

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 (9-12) oz package of fresh or frozen cheese tortellini
  • 1 lb ground Italian sausage
  • 1 chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 (14oz) can Italian-style diced tomatoes
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

 

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. Boil a large pot of water and cook cheese tortellini they float to the top and are hot through, about 6-7 minutes, drain, and set aside.
  3. To your saucepan add sausage, onion, and green bell pepper.  Cook and crumble sausage until the sausage is completely browned. Drain the grease.
  4. Pour the jar of marinara sauce and diced tomatoes into the sausage mixture.
  5. Add minced garlic and simmer the mixture simmer sauce for 30 minutes
  6. Gently fold the cooked tortellini into the sauce. Then pour the sauce mixture into a 9×13 baking dish and top with the mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake until the cheese is golden brown, 20-30 minutes.
