INGREDIENTS:
- 2 Cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking Soda
- 2 TBS Brown sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 3 TBS butter
- 1 beaten egg
- ¾ cup buttermilk
- ½ Cup raisins
DIRECTIONS:
- Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, brown sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Cut in the butter until the mixture is crumbly.
- In a separate small bowl mix the beaten egg, raisins, and buttermilk, and add to the flour mixture. Stir until moistened.
- On a lightly floured surface, knead gently. Try not to over-knead the dough. (about 10 to 12 strokes)
- On a greased baking sheet, shape the mixture into a 6-inch round loaf.
- Cut a cross about 4 inches wide, and ¼ inch deep, to the top.
- Brush with an egg wash.
- Bake at 375 F for 35 minutes or until golden brown.
