Split Pea Soup

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb dried split peas
  • 8 cups water
  • 2 medium peeled and cubed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 2 large chopped onions
  • 2 medium chopped carrots
  • 2 cups cubed cooked ham
  • 1 meaty ham bone (optional but adds a lot of flavor)
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp dried marjoram
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 2 tsp rubbed sage
  • 5 tsp chicken bouillon granules

 

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a soup kettle or Dutch oven combine all ingredients and bring to a boil.
  2. reduce heat, cover, and let simmer for 1-1/2 hours or until peas and vegetables are tender.
  3. Stir frequently.
  4. Remove ham bone then serve and enjoy!
