INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb dried split peas
- 8 cups water
- 2 medium peeled and cubed potatoes
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
- 2 large chopped onions
- 2 medium chopped carrots
- 2 cups cubed cooked ham
- 1 meaty ham bone (optional but adds a lot of flavor)
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp dried marjoram
- 1 tsp poultry seasoning
- 2 tsp rubbed sage
- 5 tsp chicken bouillon granules
DIRECTIONS
- In a soup kettle or Dutch oven combine all ingredients and bring to a boil.
- reduce heat, cover, and let simmer for 1-1/2 hours or until peas and vegetables are tender.
- Stir frequently.
- Remove ham bone then serve and enjoy!
